Klondike Solitaire
The Classic Solitaire Game
I fell in love with Solitaire (also called Patience in many countries) back in the early 90s, when a version was included in my first computer. Like many of you, I spent countless hours moving cards around my screen, finding it the perfect mix of relaxation and challenge. Now I've created a version that brings that same satisfying experience to wherever you want to play β your laptop, phone, tablet, or desktop computer. It's completely free at CardAndPuzzle.com, with no downloads or signups needed. If you're like me and discovered it on your first computer, or picked it up later, this is the same familiar game that's been helping people unwind for generations. This version feels smooth and modern while keeping what makes it special β that perfect blend of strategy and luck that helps keep your mind sharp. Beyond just being a relaxing way to pass the time, Solitaire is one of those games that keeps your brain active and engaged.
The Setup
Klondike Solitaire is played with a standard 52-card deck without Jokers. Here's how the game is set up:
- The Tableau: Seven piles of cards are laid out from left to right. The first pile has one card, the second pile has two cards, and so on. Only the top card of each pile is face up.
- Stock: Remaining cards placed face-down in the upper left.
- Waste Pile: Cards from the stock that are available for play.
- Foundation: Four piles for building up each suit from Ace to King.

How to Play
Whether you learned it as Patience or Solitaire, this classic card game has one simple goal: build four complete suits in the foundation piles, starting with Aces and ending with Kings. Here's how you play:
- Moving Cards: Cards must be placed in descending order and alternating colors (e.g., a red 6 on a black 7).
- Uncovering Cards: When you move cards and uncover a facedown card, turn it face up.
- Using the Stock: Turn over cards from the stock to the waste pile.
- Building Foundations: Start each foundation pile with an Ace and build up by suit.
The Options
Simply tap button labeled Game to switch between versions anytime. Both styles are completely free and work beautifully on any device.
- Turn 1 (Classic): Perfect for a relaxing game break β turn over one card at a time from the deck, just like playing with real cards.
- Turn 3 (Challenge): Ready to test your skills? Turn three cards at a time for a more strategic challenge.
The Scoring
Every move affects your score in Klondike Solitaire. Here's how points are awarded:
Basic Points
- Moving from waste to tableau: +5 points
- Moving to foundation (from waste or tableau): +10 points
- Turning over a face-down tableau card: +5 points
Time Bonus
- 700,000 divided by your completion time in seconds
- Example: Finish in 4 minutes (240 seconds) = 2,916 bonus points
- No time bonus for games under 30 seconds
Strategy Guide
- Always move Aces and Twos to the foundation when possible.
- Focus on uncovering hidden tableau cards early.
- Take your time with foundation moves β sometimes those cards are more useful in play.
