TriPeaks Solitaire

Triple the Peaks, Triple the Fun

Golf Solitaire was the first game of this type that I ever played, and I spent countless hours enjoying its straightforward mechanics. But everything changed when I discovered TriPeaks Solitaire. While it shares many of the same basic mechanics as Golf—playing cards one higher or lower than the waste pile—the unique three-peaked layout creates a completely different strategic experience. What started as simple curiosity quickly turned into preference, and now I find myself favoring TriPeaks over its cousin. The way the peaks create distinct sections to work through, the satisfaction of clearing a difficult arrangement, and the extra layer of strategy involved in choosing which peak to tackle first—it all combines into something special. Now I've created this version to share with you, bringing that same engaging experience to wherever you want to play - your laptop, phone, tablet, or desktop computer. It's completely free at CardAndPuzzle.com, with no downloads or signups needed. Whether you're already familiar with Golf Solitaire or new to this style of card game entirely, TriPeaks offers a fresh and captivating challenge that's easy to learn but surprisingly deep to master.

The Setup

TriPeaks Solitaire uses a standard 52-card deck without Jokers. Here's how the game is set up:

  • The Tableau: 28 cards arranged in three pyramid-like peaks (hence the name).
  • Card Arrangement: The top cards of each peak are face-up, while those beneath them are face-down, creating a challenge.
  • The Stock: The remaining cards form the stock pile, with the top card turned face-up to start the waste pile.
  • The Waste: This is where you'll play cards from the peaks and draw new cards from the stock.

How to Play

TriPeaks is all about building sequences and clearing the three peaks. Here's how it works:

  • Basic Moves: You can play any uncovered tableau card that is one rank higher or lower than the card on top of the waste pile, regardless of suit.
  • Card Sequence: The sequence wraps around, so Kings and Aces are considered consecutive (you can play a King on an Ace and vice versa).
  • Drawing Cards: If no moves are available, draw the next card from the stock pile to continue.
  • Exposed Cards: You can only play cards that are completely uncovered (no cards on top of them).
  • Goal: Clear all cards from the three peaks to win the game.

Scoring System

TriPeaks features an exciting scoring system that rewards consecutive plays:

Streak Points

  • Each tableau card played to the waste pile earns 1 base point
  • Consecutive plays build a streak, adding bonus points equal to your streak count
  • Example: Your first card earns 1+1=2 points, second consecutive card earns 1+2=3 points, third earns 1+3=4 points, and so on
  • Drawing from the stock or making an invalid move breaks your streak and resets the counter

Peak Bonuses

  • Clearing an entire peak earns you a 15-point bonus
  • Maximum of 45 bonus points for clearing all three peaks

Time Bonus

  • Complete the game in 30 seconds or less: 600 point bonus
  • For completion times between 30 seconds and 10 minutes, the bonus decreases linearly (from 600 to 0)
  • No time bonus for games taking longer than 10 minutes
  • Time bonus is only awarded if you clear all tableau cards

Strategy Guide

  • Focus on clearing one peak at a time to earn those valuable peak bonuses.
  • When you have multiple play options, choose moves that will maintain your streak.
  • Try to expose face-down cards early to give yourself more options.
  • Pay attention to which card you'll leave on the waste pile - it determines your next available moves.
  • Sometimes it's worth drawing a card from the stock to preserve your options for a longer streak later.
  • Look for opportunities to clear cards that might block access to other cards higher up the peaks.
  • When possible, leave a middle-value card (like 7 or 8) on the waste pile, as these provide more potential matches.
